What We Expect
Be respectful: Treat every person you meet with dignity and courtesy, even if you disagree or don't connect. Diversity of thought and background is valued here.
Be authentic: Present yourself genuinely. Misleading others about who you are erodes trust.
Be considerate: Remember there's a real person on the other side of the screen. Choose kindness in every interaction.
Take responsibility: Own your actions. If you make a mistake, apologize and do better.
Prohibited Behavior
The following actions violate our community guidelines and may result in a ban:
Harassment & Bullying: Targeting individuals with insults, threats, intimidation, or hate speech based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any protected characteristic.
Explicit Content: Sharing sexually explicit material, engaging in sexual conversations with minors, or soliciting sexual acts.
Illegal Activities: Promoting or facilitating illegal acts including drug trafficking, theft, fraud, or exploitation.
Spam & Advertising: Promoting products, services, websites, social media accounts, or other platforms. This includes asking for followers, likes, or subscriptions.
Impersonation: Pretending to be someone else, including celebrities, other users, or Detroit Chat staff.
Privacy Violations: Recording, screenshotting, or sharing conversations without explicit consent. Doxxing—sharing someone's private information like address, phone number, or workplace—is strictly forbidden.
Scams & Fraud: Attempting to trick users into sending money, gifts, or personal information through phishing or social engineering.
Self-harm Content: Discussing or promoting self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders is not allowed. We encourage users in crisis to contact appropriate support services.
Underage Use: Users must be 18 or older. If you suspect someone is underage, please report them.
Platform Rules
You must use the platform as intended—for real-time conversations with other consenting adults.
Automated systems (bots, scripts, macros) are prohibited.
Do not attempt to hack, reverse-engineer, or tamper with the platform's code or infrastructure.
Don't attempt to bypass moderation systems or bans.
Enforcement
We use automated systems and human moderation to enforce these guidelines. Violations may result in:
Warning: Minor or first-time offenses may receive a warning.
Temporary Ban: Repeated or serious violations may result in temporary suspension (duration varies by severity).
Permanent Ban: Severe violations—including explicit content, harassment, or illegal activities—result in immediate permanent bans.
We also reserve the right to report illegal activities to appropriate authorities.
Appealing a Ban
If you believe your ban was issued in error, you may contact us through our contact form for review. We examine appeals on a case-by-case basis and will respond when possible. Please note that we uphold bans for guideline violations unless there is clear evidence of mistake.
Your Role in Community Safety
Community moderation works best when everyone participates. If you witness guideline violations:
Use the report function: Report users immediately with as much detail as possible.
Disengage: Don't continue a conversation just to gather evidence. Your safety comes first.
Block users: Prevent further interaction from problematic users.
